CAD does not exist on a screen. It ends up in metal, under a torch, in a casting tree, at a setting bench, on a polishing wheel. When that translation is not considered at the design stage, the bench pays for it in time, frustration, and rework.

This session looks at the relationship between digital geometry and real world production. Not software tricks. Not shortcuts. We will focus on how design decisions made in CAD affect casting, setting, finishing, durability, and future repair.

We will examine why a piece that looks clean and refined on screen can become difficult to cast, risky to set, or time consuming to finish. We will walk through common structural trouble spots in CAD that complicate manufacturing, and show how small, targeted adjustments can improve castability, stone security, strength, and finishing time.

Using clear examples, we will trace how geometry interacts with metal, heat, tools, and wear. The goal is to design with bench realities in mind and to build a shared language between CAD designers and bench jewelers so the two sides are working from the same understanding.

When CAD supports the bench, production improves, margins stabilize, and the finished piece reflects the intent behind the design.
